More Than Football: Family Game Day Traditions We Love

Fall in Northeast Florida may not come with changing leaves and chilly mornings, but that doesn't mean we don't know how to enjoy the season.

October brings pumpkin patches, Halloween events, fall festivals, live music, and plenty of family-friendly reasons to get out and enjoy the season. Whether you're looking for something spooky, something outdoorsy, or an easy Saturday activity, there are plenty of ways to make the most of fall around Amelia Island and Jacksonville.

So grab the kids, pack a few snacks, and get ready to make some fall memories.

🎃 Pick the Perfect Pumpkin

Looking for pumpkins? These local farms each offer a little something different, from classic pumpkin patches and corn mazes to farm animals, games, and plenty of fall photo opportunities.

📍 Hilliard, FL📅 Opening Day: October 3 | 9 AM–9 PM🍂 Open: Peaceful Fridays, 5–9 PM | Saturdays, 9 AM–9 PM

If you’re looking for a classic fall farm experience with plenty to keep the kids entertained, Conner’s A-Maize-Ing Acres is worth the drive to Hilliard. This family-operated farm brings all the best parts of fall together, from a decorated pumpkin patch and corn maze to farm animals, wagon rides, and plenty of space for little ones to run and play.

Kids can climb and explore the play forts, race on pedal karts, try their hand at tumble bug races, and visit the animal barn to meet the farm animals. Families can also hop aboard the cow and horse train or take a wagon ride to feed the cows. On weekends,

Granny Pumpkin Story Time takes place at 11 AM and 2 PM, giving little ones a chance to slow down for a classic fall story.

📍 Green Cove Springs, FL📅 Opening Day: October 2🍂 Open: Fridays, 4–9 PM | Saturdays, 10 AM–9 PM

Amazing Grace Family Farms put on an annual Pumpkin Festival that has something for everyone! It features a pumpkin patch, crop maze, farm animals, colorful fall photo spots, and plenty of kid-friendly attractions. Little ones will love exploring the Pumpkin House, bouncing on the Jump Pad, riding the Cow Train, and playing in the Bubble Barn. There are also beautiful sunflower and zinnia fields that make the perfect backdrop for those annual fall family photos.

And, of course, no fall festival is complete without something delicious to snack on. Grab a funnel cake or seasonal treat while you wander around the farm, pick out your pumpkins, and let the kids enjoy all the activities. With so much packed into one place,

Amazing Grace Family Farms is an easy pick for a fall afternoon that feels like a little getaway without having to go far from Jacksonville.

👻 Get Spooky at Jacksonville Zoo's Spooktacular

For families who love Halloween, Spooktacular at the Jacksonville Zoo & Botanical Gardens is a fall tradition worth adding to the calendar. The 39th annual event features festive lights, trick-or-treat stations, Halloween photo opportunities, a 400-foot light tunnel, Witches of Trout River, Skeleton Disco, and an optional scare zone.

If your kids are a little more sensitive to the spooky stuff, plan for Sensory-Friendly Night on October 11, when the event skips the scares, loud music, and flashing lights.

📍 370 Zoo Parkway, Jacksonville📅 Oct. 10, 15–18, 22–25 & 29–31⏰ 6–10 PM🎟️ Tickets: $25 members / $35 non-members in advance; children 2 and under free

🍂 Explore the Jacksonville Arboretum's Fall Festival

Spend an afternoon outside at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens during its annual Fall Festival. The event combines a little bit of everything families love about the season, including a pumpkin patch, Trunk or Treat, an interactive trail, and Discovering Nature Nearby painting program.

It’s a great option for families looking for something a little more laid-back, especially if your kids would rather run around outside than attend a traditional Halloween event. Spend some time exploring the trails, check out the fall activities, and let the kids enjoy Trunk or Treat before heading home.

📍 1445 Millcoe Road, Jacksonville📅 Sunday, October 25⏰ 4–7 PM🎟️ Admission: $3; free for members

🎪 Take the Kids to the Northeast Florida Fair

For a classic fall outing, head to Callahan for the Northeast Florida Fair, running October 8–18. Think rides, games, fair food, livestock, exhibits, live music, and plenty of old-fashioned fair fun.

There are activities happening throughout the 11-day event, including youth competitions, livestock shows, live entertainment, and family activities. It’s an easy one to add to the calendar when you want a full afternoon or evening out with the kids. And, of course, no trip to the fair is complete without letting everyone pick out their favorite fair food.

📍 Northeast Florida Fairgrounds, Callahan📅 October 8–18⏰ Opening day: Gates open at 5 PM⏰ Weekends: Gates open at noon
